GLOSSARY
Rooftop Cooling
Rooftop cooling applies high-pressure mist systems to rooftop bars, event decks, and penthouse terraces — open-air spaces that collect solar heat from both sky and surrounding reflective surfaces. Engineered with wind sensors and directional nozzles to compensate for altitude wind variability.
Also known as: Sky bar cooling · Rooftop terrace cooling · High-floor outdoor cooling
Why rooftops are harder than ground floor
A Jakarta or Surabaya rooftop at 30 stories sits 4–6 °C hotter than street level in direct sun because the surrounding glass and concrete reflect and re-emit solar radiation. Wind at altitude also disperses mist faster than at ground level, so engineering must compensate.
Design adaptations
- Directional stainless nozzles (fan-pattern) aimed away from prevailing afternoon wind
- Wind sensors on exposed roof lines — misting pauses above 15 km/h to avoid guest-zone drift
- Parapet-mounted nozzle lines rather than pergola-overhead, because rooftops often lack structural overhead cover
- Higher flow rate per m² (typically +20–30 %) to compensate for mist dispersal in open sky
Indonesian rooftop venues served
Rooftop bars, lounge venues, wedding terraces, and corporate event decks — particularly in SCBD Jakarta, Menteng high-rises, Thamrin office-tower lounges, and Surabaya MERR corridor. Installation coordinates with building management for roof-access scheduling, crane use, and water-line routing from building service riser.
