A tent solves one problem and creates another. The rain stays out — but so does nothing else. A tent roof traps the hot air rising off the crowd, the walls block the breeze, and by one o’clock, the inside of a wedding tent can be hotter than standing in an open field.
For event organisers and couples planning a daytime ceremony, here are the cooling options — cheapest first, with the honest limits of each.
Why tents trap heat
Hot air rises and pools at the tent’s peak. Without top ventilation, that hot layer thickens downward toward the guests. Side walls — installed against wind or for looks — cut off the only natural cooling mechanism left. The result is a sauna with floral decoration.
The first principle, before any equipment: open the peak vents and leave the windward side open if the event design allows it. It’s free, and it changes everything.
Option 1: Renting misting fans — the one-day-event standard
For a one-off event at a rented location, renting is the right answer — we’re consistent about this. What to know when renting for a tent:
- Count units from tent area: a misting fan’s effective radius is 2–4 metres; a 100 m² tent needs 5–8 properly placed units, not two at the entrance.
- Position at the edges, blowing across — a fan in the middle blasts mist at the nearest guests and leaves the rest of the tent hot.
- Mind the floor and the decor: misting-fan droplets at 50–200 microns land wet. Keep them away from the guest book, the sound system, and a slippery dance floor — the physics here.

Option 2: A venue with an installed system
For venues hosting events regularly — garden weddings, rooftops, pavilions — the maths flips: renting every season is a subscription that never ends, while an installed system cools by up to 10°C with dry surfaces, no cables across the guest area, and no fan noise competing with the MC.
Event venues also get a bonus no fan can offer: visible fog zones for staged moments — a misted entrance, a fog layer for golden-hour photos. One system, two jobs.
For venue owners: the full approach is at events and weddings cooling.
Option 3: The combination, for large events
The pattern we see work at 300+ guest events: the venue’s system covers the core zones (ceremony stage, main dining), rented fans patch the overflow — the car park turned dining area, the extra tent standing for one day only. It goes into the rundown like a sound check: unit positions are set before the decor arrives, not after.
The daytime-event cooling checklist
- Tent peak vents open? Windward side left uncovered?
- Tent area ÷ a 2–4 m radius = how many rental units?
- Fans at the edges, blowing across, away from moisture-sensitive decor?
- Recurring venue? Ask about their installed system — or send them to us.
- Photo moments planned? A visible fog zone can be part of the decor, not just the cooling.
