Every quote conversation starts with the machine price. Almost nobody asks the better question: what does the system cost to own — per month, over years? That’s the number that belongs in your P&L next to the extra covers it generates.
Here is the honest breakdown for our Indonesian installations, using only figures we can stand behind. Where a cost depends on your site, we say so instead of inventing an average.
Year zero: the purchase
Machine packages run Rp 15.2–26.9 million depending on the area covered — small terraces at the lower end, large multi-zone venues at the top. Installation, water filtration, shipping, electrical work and site preparation are calculated separately per site, because a pergola in Canggu and a rooftop in Jakarta are different jobs. Full package details: pricing page, and the decision logic in what mist cooling costs.
The machine carries a one-year warranty.
The running costs owners actually notice
Electricity: Rp 2,000–5,000 per day. A high-pressure pump is a small motor, not an air conditioner — roughly 90% less energy than trying to cool the same area with outdoor AC. Over a month of daily operation that’s a line item of tens of thousands of rupiah, not millions.
Water: 2–8 litres per minute while active. A medium restaurant terrace running a 4-hour peak cycle uses roughly 500–1,200 litres — comparable to one bathroom flush per seat per service. At Indonesian utility water prices this is a rounding error next to electricity, and both are rounding errors next to one extra occupied table.

The maintenance costs that keep the system alive
These are small, but skipping them is how cheap systems die — the failure catalogue is in why misting systems fail in the tropics:
- Nozzle cleaning every 2–4 weeks, depending on your local water quality. Staff can do it after a handover; it costs minutes, not money.
- Filter cleaning on the same cadence, replacement on schedule or when flow drops. Filter cartridges are consumables — budget for replacements per your water quality; your quote will state the interval for your site.
- A weekly visual walk-through — free, and catches most problems while they’re still trivial. The full routine: maintenance guide, plus the rainy season variant.
What we deliberately can’t put a single number on
Two items vary too much by site for an honest average, so ask for them in your quote instead of trusting a blog figure — ours or anyone’s:
- Installation and site works — depends on structure, pipe runs, water and power access.
- Consumables cadence — filter and nozzle life depend directly on your water source.
A supplier who quotes one universal “total cost” without seeing your site is estimating, at best.
The three-year picture
Put together: a one-time machine package (Rp 15.2–26.9M) plus site-specific installation, then daily running costs in the thousands of rupiah and a maintenance routine measured in staff-minutes. Set against it what the system earns: venues report meaningfully more occupied outdoor covers during the exact hours that used to be dead — the revenue side is documented in real results and is mist cooling worth it.
