PT Greenfields Indonesia — Mist Cooling for a Working Dairy Farm in Malang
The Venue
PT Greenfields Indonesia is one of the country’s leading dairy producers, with farm operations in the highlands around Malang, East Java. Its barns house dairy herds at a scale few Indonesian operations match — long open-sided structures where thousands of cows feed, rest, and get milked every day.

The Challenge
Dairy cattle are heat-sensitive working animals. When barn temperatures climb through the tropical midday, cows eat less and spend their energy coping with heat instead of producing milk — heat stress is one of the best-documented productivity drains in dairy farming, the bovine cousin of the heat stress problem poultry farmers know well.
The barns’ scale rules out conventional approaches. Open-sided structures hundreds of metres long cannot be air-conditioned, and fans alone move hot air without lowering its temperature. At the same time, any cooling method has to respect a dairy barn’s constraints: feed lying in open rows must stay dry, floors must not become slippery, and equipment must survive a demanding agricultural environment.
The Solution
MistSystem installed a MistPro 700 system covering 500 m² of barn zones, with high-pressure lines running along the roof structure above the feeding rows — where cows spend the hottest hours of the day.
Key elements of the installation:
- 70-bar high pressure producing sub-10-micron droplets that evaporate in the barn air — cooling the zone while the feed below stays dry
- Lines along the existing roof frame, out of reach of animals and washing equipment
- Coverage focused on the feeding rows, where cooling directly supports the herd’s intake through midday heat
- Filtration matched to farm water, protecting nozzles under continuous agricultural use

The Result
The treated barn zones run significantly cooler through the midday peak, with the mist evaporating above the animals — no wet feed, no slick floors, no dripping lines.

For the herd: cows stay at the feeding rows through hours they previously spent coping with heat, supporting stable intake through the hottest part of the day.
For the operation: the system runs on the same platform as MistSystem’s 600+ hospitality installations, with running costs of roughly Rp 2,000–5,000 of electricity per day of operation and maintenance the farm’s own staff handle after handover training.
For the site: this installation is MistSystem’s largest agricultural deployment to date, and the proof behind our warehouse and industrial work: the same physics that keeps a beach club’s tables dry keeps a dairy barn’s feed dry.
