The Venue
Costa Restaurant is a beachside dining destination in Sanur, Bali. The restaurant’s appeal is rooted in its location: open-air seating with direct views of the ocean, a relaxed coastal atmosphere, and a menu that draws both tourists staying in the area and locals who make the trip specifically for the setting.
The Challenge
Sanur’s east-facing coastline gets direct morning and midday sun, and temperatures climb quickly. By late morning, the outdoor tables closest to the beach become uncomfortably hot. The combination of direct sunlight, heat radiating off the sand, and coastal humidity creates conditions that push guests toward shade or indoors.
The restaurant’s greatest asset, its ocean views, comes with the problem that the best tables are the most exposed to heat. Guests would request tables further from the water, away from the view, or skip outdoor seating entirely during peak hours.
Any cooling solution had to be invisible. Costa’s appeal depends on unobstructed sightlines to the ocean. Bulky fans, large equipment housings, or visible ductwork would destroy the very thing guests come for.
The Solution
MistSystem installed a high-pressure mist cooling system designed specifically to preserve the restaurant’s open views while delivering effective cooling to the outdoor dining area.
Key elements of the installation:
- 70-bar high-pressure pump system producing ultra-fine mist that evaporates in the air, cooling the dining zone without any visible mist clouds
- 6mm stainless steel lines routed along the existing roof structure and support beams, virtually invisible from seated guest perspective
- View-preserving design with no vertical structures, standing fans, or equipment that could obstruct ocean sightlines
- Dry operation ensuring tables, tableware, and guests stay completely dry even at the closest tables to the mist lines
The system layout was planned around the restaurant’s seating arrangement, prioritizing the premium beachfront tables that needed the most cooling.
The Result
Costa’s beachfront tables went from being a lunchtime liability to the restaurant’s most desirable seating throughout the day.
Ocean view preserved: The installation is invisible from the dining perspective. Guests look out at the ocean without any cooling equipment in their sightline. The system works in the background, felt but not seen.
All-day outdoor dining: The beachfront tables are now comfortable from morning through afternoon. Guests no longer avoid the sun-exposed seating, and the restaurant can seat its full outdoor capacity during hours that were previously problematic.
Guest comfort: A temperature drop of up to 10 degrees Celsius in the dining zone makes a tangible difference. Guests linger over meals, order additional courses and drinks, and leave with a better impression of the overall experience.
