Evaporative Cooling
Evaporative cooling is the reduction of air temperature caused by water absorbing heat as it transitions to vapour. This fundamental thermodynamic principle drives mist cooling, cooling towers, swamp coolers, and cooling pads — but outcomes vary massively with droplet size and pressure.

The thermodynamic basis
1 litre of water evaporating absorbs ~680 Wh of heat from surrounding air. This is true regardless of droplet size — but how fast and where the evaporation happens determines the practical outcome.
Three evaporative cooling approaches
- Cooling pads (swamp coolers, poultry houses): Water wets a fibrous pad; air passes through, evaporating water into the air stream. Wet-surface application, works best in dry climates.
- Cooling towers (industrial HVAC): Water sprays into cascading patterns; massive heat exchange in a controlled tower. Industrial-only.
- High-pressure mist cooling (MistSystem): Water atomised into sub-10-micron droplets that flash-evaporate in ambient air. Dry-surface application, works in humid tropical climates.
Which is right for Indonesian outdoor venues
Only high-pressure mist cooling provides the dry-surface + open-air behaviour required for hospitality, residential, and retail outdoor zones. Cooling pads wet surfaces; cooling towers are industrial-only.
